Jean Monnet Module PLAT.EU
Summer School PLAT-EU 2025
The Jean Monnet Module PLAT.EU, held by the School of Advanced Studies on Cultures, Politics and Democracy of UnitelmaSapienza and funded by the European Union, wants to implement the awareness and the knowledge about the EU legal tools aimed at assuring the openness of the decision-making process.
The second edition of the Summer School will take place from the 7th to the 11th of July 2025 at Unitelma Sapienza University and at Sapienza University campus in Rome (Italy) and it will focus mainly on lobbying legislation in Europe and North America. The classes will be held in English by university professors, decision-makers, public officials, professionals and experts in institutional relations. There will also be external seminars at the Italian Parliament.
The lessons (40 hours in total) will be highly interactive: students will be involved in discussions, simulations, role-plays, and exercises based on how European decision making processes work. In order to familiarize with the course’s broader themes, all selected participants must follow online preparatory seminars (16 hours in total) which will be recorded and will be available for downloading.
All selected participants will receive a scholarship to cover the Summer School participation fees. Participants are responsible for their own travel, visa, meals, and accommodation fees. Upon request, the University can provide accommodation suggestions.
Summer School PLAT-EU 2024
The first edition of the PLAT-EU Intensive Summer School took place from the 1st to the 5th of July 2024 at Sapienza University of Rome (Italy), one of the oldest existing universities – founded in 1303 – and the largest university in Europe. The classes were held in English at Sapienza’s main campus (Piazzale Aldo Moro, 5, Rome), just a few metro stops away from the capital’s historic centre. Some classes were exceptionally held at the Italian Parliament.
The first edition focused on the legislation of lobbying in the EU institutions, compared to the regulations in the EU Member States. The lessons covered a variety of topics, such as the EU decision-making process, transparency, participation and techniques of lobbying in the EU, comparative lobbying law, ethics and anti-corruption mechanisms. Lectures were complemented by debates, team work and simulations so as to put into practice the knowledge acquired during the course and encourage interaction within the group. The participants followed online preparatory seminars (16 hours in total) to get familiar with the topics covered during the in-person classes.
All selected participants received a scholarship to cover the Summer School participation fees.
In addition, a call for proposals was launched, in order to create the Jean Monnet PLAT.EU logo.
